Response about hippies

According to Angela Onorato fashioning culture 2021 blog, Hippies is a movement which started in 1960s, that objected traditional beliefs of the western world. It began in universities in United States, Canada and United Kingdom adopted the movement. Hippies movement came about as a resistance of the involvement of US army in the Vietnam war from 1955 to 1975. Hippies popular saying of “peace and love” is to communicate the refusal of the Vietnam war, and for everyone to live in peace and harmony.

Hippies felt isolated from the middle-class people who prides themselves of materialism possessions and hippies wanted a simpler and meaningful life. This indicates that hippies are focusing on being generally happy without any string attached and feeling a sense of freedom from financial responsibilities. I think that they are running away from the challenges in life of attempting to fulfil ambitions and have stable income needed to survive, as they are afraid of failing. Some would say that they are genius as they are avoiding stress of the society to preserve their energy from something more important of self-discovery and not pay attention of other people's opinions.

Moreover, hippies are bridge the gap between femininity and masculinity, as both genders outgrow their hairs and would be difficult to identify them. Hippies have alternative clothing of wearing psychedelic draping loose clothes which communicates freedom as they are not bonded by structured clothes. I believe that hippies are strong minded individuals as they appear to not care about how they will be perceived by other people of not taking life seriously. Some older generation will not support hippies practices, as would be seen as abnormal to them. In the 1900 there were strict rules of men and women not looking identical and men will be expected to groom and have short hair and women to be the style icons in structure garment which defines body parts.
