Response about hippies

Image
According to Angela Onorato fashioning culture 2021 blog, Hippies is a movement which started in 1960s, that objected traditional beliefs of the western world. It began in universities in United States, Canada and United Kingdom adopted the movement. Hippies movement came about as a resistance of the involvement of US army in the Vietnam war from 1955 to 1975. Hippies popular saying of “peace and love” is to communicate the refusal of the Vietnam war, and for everyone to live in peace and harmony. Hippies felt isolated from the middle-class people who prides themselves of materialism possessions and hippies wanted a simpler and meaningful life. This indicates that hippies are focusing on being generally happy without any string attached and feeling a sense of freedom from financial responsibilities. I think that they are running away from the challenges in life of attempting to fulfil ambitions and have stable income needed to survive, as they are afraid of failing. Some would say that

Celebrity culture

Image
A Celebrity is a person who is widely recognised by strangers and works within the entertainment industries. Celebrities portray a wealthy lifestyle style of wearing designers, having mansions and luxury cars, that may not belong to them. There are many reasons to not believe anything put on social media, as the mansions might belong to friends or family members. The cars used for the poses might be hired from a car dealership, and their designer outfits would be on loan. Due to the mass media attention celebrities have, they venture into business deals with brands to promote their products on their social media, as they have thousands of followers. This means they get high end materials for free and will be posing in a way that they purchased them. This is a photograph of Charlotte Crosby, who was involved in a reality tv shows called Geordie shore. This makes are a celebrity and she is posing in a car, that might not be purchased by her. Being a celebrity comes with hours of coaching

Sex in Advertising

Image
Sex is an act of sexually pleasing yourself with another person. Sexual act can involve using toys, whip straps and dildos, can be used to promote any product to communicate “sexy” or intimacy. This advertisement  of Tom Ford perfume for men is an example is using the concept of sex to enhances the senses of men, by using a beautiful model in a provoking pose that can be replicated in sexual intercourse of holding the breast and covering the nipples to show pleasure. Poster creates mass attention and appeals to heterosexual men, and has a psychology impact of thinking that when they get the spray, will get women to perform such acts. The red lipstick and nail polish suggest danger or caution which indicates that if men buy this product, they will be in bondage of constantly using this product until something tragic happens. The poster of the spray being placed in the inmate area is a way of inviting men into the part, to use whenever they like until they run out of interest and get a n

Hip Hop in Africa

Image
Hip hop is known for its fierce lyrics: of using insults or strong language  to convey social and political issues surrounding the world we live today. These days youths of African American and African heritage are using rap to express concerns the corruption and poor health care of citizens, Hip hop was originally inspired by Tupac Shakur whose rap was about the daily troubles of blacks in the United States. Today young male Africans are at the forefront of expressing the truths of being African living in a country with greedy political leaders, who steal from the people and use it to sponsor luxury lifestyles. This includes buying properties in foreign countries, putting their children in private schools, and owning a luxury sport car, while their citizens are suffering with no electricity and water. Equally young African women are using rap to criticize gender-based violence, such as rape most common in ghetto communities. The women who face such violence cannot afford lawyers to gi

The symbolism of traditions in Ghana

Image
Traditional cultures are a combination of past and present practices of a certain group of people, who adopts beliefs into everyday life. This has connection with our ancestors and is associated with tribes in African countries, to maintain the same values of religious practices and ritual for thousands of years. Traditional practices have conflicts with modern practices, as something deemed acceptable to traditionalist are frown upon by modern people. As a result, there are constant battles between the older and younger generation. Traditional people are thought to have narrow mind set to modern people and find it difficult to adjust to the modern world and are often challenged to think otherwise. Traditional practices are similar to traditional dresses that varies from countries to tribes. In this case the traditional dress of Ghana is Kente cloth, which some are handwoven or printed. The design of the cloth is a repeated geometric pattern in vibrant colours that is used for special

Can women wear suit and feel as powerful as men?

Image
Power dressing began in the 1970s, when women began to think about their careers, as opposed to being domestic. Apparently, the clothes that we wear makes humans see the world in contrasting ways. This is a fact as when am going to university, I want to be taken seriously and deemed smart, so I wear conservative clothes that do not emphasise my body features. Wearing conservative clothes does not prove how clever a person is. A person can dress smartly but will not communicate that in the way they speak and the morals they have. This may vary in different races, backgrounds and most importantly experiences. Do not judge a book by its cover! Power dressing in women is a way of indicating that they are as powerful as men, in the mind set. This makes men fear women as they would think their knowledge exceeds their own. As a result, men's mannerism toward women dressed in suit changes into positive and shows more respect and will be treated fairly. This is to prevent the idea of women

The Secret World of Haute Couture

Image
If  haute couture is really a secret, why do we know about it? Well, some say that there are many things that fashion observers do not know. Many artefacts  are  brought to my attention through a documentary I watched. An elite fashion secret society has 200 members of only wealth y  women from all over the world, who  have  prove d  the concept of fashion being a form of art. This is because they are willing to spend an average of $30,000- $40,000 on a couture that would be worn once or twice in their lifetime.   Apparently, the money spent is worth it because, skilful seamstress spends an average of  150 hours on a couture, that is delicately hand stitched and  embroidered  on the finest piece of fabric money can buy. From this fact alone I can say that fashion houses are deliberately singling out middle- and lower-class people, who cannot afford the couture. This will be in the hope of making more money than selling to average pe ople . I believe that this is wrong, and fashion s

Fashion factories undercover documentary

Image
A documentary shows  secret footage s  of factories not  abiding  by  the law s of Bangladesh  that  states  that worker s under the age 18  years,   cannot  work for  more than five hours day. However, 40 children between the age of 11 to 15 years are working  10 hours shifts in inhuman e   conditions .  This is  shocking, as I have  reali s ed  the depth  fashion  companies are willing to go just to make profits. This is a result , of fashion companies constantly advertising   clothes we don’t need, of catwalk looks made at the fraction of the price  that ends up in landfills.   By   employing  people  in  Bangladesh,  fashion companies are saving money in the construction of garment s , as t he  country offers  one  of  most  inexpensive   l abour  of  workers . The liv es of the workers are  constantly been  put at risk everyday of having  locked  fire doors in  crow ded  rooms, with small air  ventilation  that can cause  suffocation .    Also, having unsafe working environment
