Prints

Image
These prints were created from the concept of adhesive glue and weaves, and it is dedicated to my mother. When I was young my mum used to take me to the salon to get my hair done every 3 weeks and it has been a habit for me to get my hair done. This is a way of thanking my mum for instilling grooming, as it help me to connect to my culture as an African.

Brief of Project

When I started my degree, I realised that the work load is different from college. I was required to do more coursework. The brief consisted of contextual file which is a combination of visual and written research in a form of power point. Technical file consists of the process of practical work, (documenting stages). The sketchbook demonstrates drawings of ideas related to the chosen concept and a portfolio. These are the fundamental aspects of the brief, but other elements are included to make the brief different of each project depending on the work requested. For each semester I was given 3 projects, I created a timetable dedicating two days on each project, studying 6 hours a day with one hour break. I followed the guidance of the brief to ensure that I am doing the work, I need to pass the project. Creating a timetable is a way of organising my time to meet strict deadlines, and also I can not study in the night like my fellow class mates so I did my work during day time.

Perspective

Image
Perspective is a visual element in art and design that is used to represent three dimensional objects on a flat surface. This conveys objects appearing smaller on bigger, depending on the eye line above or below the horizon. Objects appearing smaller into foreshortening effect is created by standing in distance, away from it. Whereby objects appearing bigger is conceived by standing close to it. However, this logic applying to objects can change from standing in another position to the objects. Different Perspectives One point is when objects appear smaller in a single vanishing point, meeting in the middle. Two point perspective is when buildings have two vanishing point into the distance where the lines meet, and it is create by standing in the middle of an object in the distance. Three point perspective is when a cube has three vanishing point, this is created when standing above the object. The Courtauld gallery

Image
I visited the Courtauld Gallery to gain inspirations towards other artworks, I will be constructing this academic year.  The gallery consists of renaissance paintings and depicts the early forms of contemporary arts of abstract expressionism. This gallery is interesting because, it shows the intellectual aspects of painting natural forms accurately considering scale and colour. The idea of using pigments to create realistic imagery is fascinating, and it is a skill I look forward to practicing.  I discovered a painting called "Manet's Bar" by Folie Bergere. It shows the reflection of a woman in a bar talking to a man. This generates lots of speculations as to what the man is saying to her. I believe that the man is interested and wants to get to know her. From the facial expression of the woman, it indicates that she isn't interested in him. This may be that she is thought to be a hooker, because of her occupational task. The romantic settings of the restaurant of the

Dewey decimal system project

Image
For the Dewey decimal project, I chose three books of the alphabetical numbers associated with my name of 20181325. This reference number was taken to the library to withdraw books of that number and found, Religion, Media and Cultural, The Art of the Sacred and Religion, Media and Marketplace. These books were by the following authors of David Morgan, Graham Howes and Schofieid Clark. Two pages of the books were randomly selected and analysed for important keywords that can be used to create sculptures. Keywords were listed in my sketchbook, but the main keywords selected were media, sacrifice, Japanese, self-doubt, the prince of Egypt and Quran. Images of these keywords were drawn and combined together to create four initial ideas for final outcome. I chose the cover of the Quran book containing images of the keywords because, I wanted to convey the literal aspects of the Quran educating Muslims about the teachings of Muhammad of the keywords. This is because, religion is a controver

The Wall Project

Image
For the wall project, I was put in a group of four organised by choosing numbers from a bowl of number 20. My group mates were Rica, David and Oana. A lecture was given of the different themes to choose from, as the subject matter of the wall. The common interest was on Donald Trump, and  decided to create sketches communicating the political issues surrounding him. Rica chose to do a sketch of  King Jong Un with his middle finger up to Trump, as a mockery of their unbalanced relationship. David made a sketch of the Mexican president destroying the American flag, as  way of objecting the plans to build wall around Mexico. Oana did sketches of Donald Trumps being a joker, of his extreme political ideas. My idea was the manipulation of the good relationship between Russia and America, of secretly planning wars against each other with missiles. All of these aspects were considered, and each of us drew our section on the wall. The ideas were drawn on a large scale with pencil, and black c
